When I first started eating really healthy, my friend Mike had a juicer and I remember thinking ‘oh this is the worst thing I’ve ever put in my mouth’. It’s amazing how your tastebuds change as you change your eating habits. Now I love my juicer, and I use it weekly. It may take a while to get used to the flavor (it’s also a bit expensive, but worth it, I love my Breville).
95% of the vitamins our bodies need are found in the juice of raw fruits and vegetables. We would need to eat 2 lbs of carrots, 10-12 apples, or 8 lbs of spinach to get the same amount of nutrients you receive in one 16 oz juice. When you drink juice, all of those nutrients rapidly enter the bloodstream absorbing all of the benefits of the fruits and vegetables and giving your digestive organs a much-needed rest. Not only will juicing facilitate weight loss, increase energy levels and strengthen immunity and bones, it will also give you a glowing complexion and may also reduce chances of heart disease, cancer and strokes (via Living Greens). Ginger is good for inflammation, beets help stamina, purify the blood from toxins and help lower blood pressure. Cucumber helps clear skin and helps us stay hydrated. Whew! Talk about good stuff!
I always thoroughly wash and scrub my veggies, but you can peel them if you’d like. That’s what I love about a juicer, you can just toss everything in!
- 1 large carrot
- 1 large cucumber
- 3 small beets (or one large beet, stems removed)
- 1 green apple
- 1 knob of ginger
1. Put vegetables through juicer on high speed.
2. Pour (best if served immediately).
